Why Talk Matters

When you are struggling to cope and life is getting on top of you, talking to someone makes all the difference. For people in Fife, Talk Matters is the place to go.

Talk Matters is Fife’s generic counselling service offering help to anyone in need. They provide a free confidential counselling service which addresses the therapeutic needs of individuals who live in the area.

You can talk confidentially to their counsellors in a safe, secure and comforting environment where you will be treated with respect.

Opened in 1997 as ncs:Fife, demand for counselling has steadily increased and the service has increased its numbers of counsellors accordingly. It now has 25 counsellors who are all professionally trained volunteers, offering their services for between two and three sessions per week.

“We see people from all walks of life and for all sorts of reasons such as depression, anxiety, abuse issues, bereavement, anger management, stress and relationship difficulties and we really believe that ‘talk matters’,” says Shirley Sim.
“In an increasingly stressful world, we have seen a corresponding increase in demand for counselling, especially for depression, anxiety and stress related issues. We are here to help alleviate these feelings, taking a holistic approach to what is troubling people.”

Talk Matters aims to make a difference and over the years it can boast a 100 per cent client satisfaction record. Ninety per cent of their clients have said their lives have been changed through counselling, which certainly makes it an option worth pursuing when things get on top of you and the stress levels increase.

What is counselling?
Most of us have heard that just talking to someone about our problems can help alleviate them. Mostly we can take changes in our stride and get on with life, but occasionally we have to deal with a situation that throws us off balance and that is when talking really matters.

Counselling is an opportunity to talk in confidence to a person outside your situation. It gives you space and time in your life for you to explore thoughts and feelings and, most importantly, gives time for you to concentrate on your needs. It can help you to live a more satisfying and happy life.

Counsellors at Talk Matters are all trained to professional standards. They do not give advice, but simply listen to you and try to help you make sense of the difficulties you may be experiencing.
