Walking the walk in style
 |
Sometimes you just have to be seen wearing the right gear and when it comes to events such as the Edinburgh Moonwalk, many of the walkers are keen to dress not only for comfort but also for fashion – well, you never know, you could easily be snapped by the paparazzi and you want to look your best.
Moonwalk organisers Walk the Walk opened Walkwear with the main aim of taking the ‘hunt’ out of looking for clothing and products for Power Walkers. Each item of clothing is tested by members of the Walk the Walk team whilst out training or competing in marathons.
Every sport has the ‘right clothes’ that are usually derived from a particular need. Power Walking is a relatively new sport in the UK, with Walk the Walk being the principle initiator in its growing popularity. “The best clothing for Power Walking is not what a rambler or runner would wear and it’s certainly not leisurewear either,” says Walk the Walk. “Clothing has to be light-weight but warm, fashionable but weather resistant and aesthetically pleasing but with a constant eye on safety. It is also important that those new to the sport feel and look confident.”

From her experience of years of power walking, founder Nina Barough recognised that New Balance were the only sports manufacturer that came close to producing suitable clothing. Working with New Balance to augment their ranges Nina altered designs, changed colours and added unique details to create a range of clothing that not only looks good but does the job it was made for.
The Walkwear range is extensive, colourful and encompasses most of the major European sizes. It can be worn in all seasons and as the branding is discreet the garments can also be worn as ‘street wear.’
