Look good on the hills
 |
It is important to consider what you wear when you are out hillwalking. Protection from the elements plus comfort comes first, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t look good! Wearing the correct clothes is essential to your safety and your comfort, but we all like to look good too and it is certainly possible to cut a dash on the hills.
Generally all outdoor clothing (including footwear) adheres to a principle known as the ‘layering system’, usually comprising three layers – base, mid and outer. The base layer is worn next to the skin with the function of drawing sweat away from the skin – it’s known as the ‘wicking’ layer.
The mid layer is worn over the base layer and its primary function is insulation or conservation of heat energy and is most commonly a ‘fleece’ type garment. The outer layer performs two important tasks. The essential function is protection from the elements but secondly, and just as importantly, the outer layer needs to allow the sweat transported away from the skin by the base and mid layers to escape into the atmosphere and evaporate.

When it comes to designer brands for outdoor gear, there are plenty. Perhaps not the Prada and Gucci variety, but for outdoor enthusiasts names such as Berghaus, Patagonia, The North Face and Salomon are eagerly sought out. Berghaus in particular has long stood as the benchmark brand for reliable outdoor clothing ideally suited to life in the British mountains.
Berghaus has been using the principle of ‘layering’ for years and has developed many leading products that work together as an effective system. The Ator range is ideal for the more fashion conscious. With sleek modern lines and functional, reliable weatherproof materials, Ator is considered by many to be the most progressive, cross purpose Berghaus gear around. It is said to “keep a savvy eye on fashion and looks good about town but is built for the hills and keeps you fully protected against the elements”. What more could the fashion conscious man or woman on the hills want?
