Go organic

It may be down to the work of new industry-led body Scotland Food & Drink, Scotland’s new Food Policy, fears of an impending food crisis, or the critical and growing mass of Scottish consumers who are passionate about the future of good food. Whatever the cause, Scotland has never been more interested in its grub. And Scotland’s Organic Food Festival is set to exploit the zeitgeist to the full.

The Soil Association Organic Fortnight runs from 6-21 September and Scotland has taken the opportunity to host it’s organic food festival as the culmination of this fortnight, giving us all a chance to enjoy organic products of all kinds. The festival on 20-21 September is the highlight of Scotland’s organic calendar and takes place in Glasgow’s stunning Old Fruitmarket, expanding this year to occupy the neighbouring and historic Ramshorn Theatre.

And it certainly seems that we want to turn organic as a nation, as can be seen from Britain’s ‘baby boom mums’.
Women in the UK are having more babies than at any time since the 1970s with sales of baby food booming. According to a new survey, nearly half of all mums say they buy more organic foods when they become parents.

Children’s food company Organix quizzed 850 pregnant women and new mums nationwide, and discovered 48 per cent said they bought more organic food as a mum.
