Eat out healthily
Eating healthily is not always easy – especially when you are eating out, so it refreshing to find a city restaurant where you can get a healthy meal that is also tasty.
Urban Angel in Edinburgh is just such a place and it won’t cost you a packet either. It was recently voted as one of the most popular healthy eating venues in Scotland.
The food at Urban Angel is all organic, free range and fresh and the restaurant was a finalist in the Health Conscious Restaurant of the Year category of the Scottish Restaurant Awards.
The award was sponsored by the healthyliving award – a Scottish Consumer Council project which encourages eating establishments to make it easier for people to choose healthy options when they are eating away from home.
Said Claire Brown, project manager of the healthyliving award: “Eating out is a big part of life in Scotland, whether it is a family meal in a restaurant or a bite to eat in your local pub or workplace canteen.
“Demand for healthier options has grown significantly in recent years so we were keen to see which food outlets the public thought were responding to this.”
Urban Angel, on Edinburgh’s Hannover Street, serves up an extensive menu of home cooked, locally sourced products, using mainly organic ingredients.
Owner Gilly Macpherson says that offering natural, healthy, ethical food has been the aim since the restaurant was opened in 2004. In the past people have associated healthy eating with bland food and missing out on the finer things in life but we believe in offering an exciting menu which is fresh, home cooked, locally sourced and seasonal. Eating healthily doesn’t have to mean compromising on taste!”
Urban Angel was shortlisted with Grassroots Café in Glasgow and Alfies, a workplace restaurant in Uddingston.
Over 600 food outlets across Scotland have already signed up to the healthyliving award, ranging from workplace canteens and supermarkets cafes to family restaurants, all keen to meet consumer demand for healthier options.
