5 a day for tots

Less than half of British children meet the ‘five a day’ target and projections for childhood obesity suggest a rise of around six per cent to a staggering 1.7 million by 2010 (Department of Health 2006).

Many of us know we should be eating five portions of fruit and veg a day, but if you are under five how much is one portion? Help is at hand with the Tumble Tots ‘Eat Fit Keep Fit’ campaign from 4 – 10 February.

This year Tumble Tots has teamed up with Organix, which makes healthy, fun, organic foods for babies and toddlers. The ‘Eat Fit Keep Fit’ campaign started four years ago to assist in tackling the problems of childhood obesity by helping parents to make appropriate choices when it comes to selecting food for their children.

Lizzie Vann founder of Organix says “We at Organix are delighted to be supporting this valuable campaign. Providing good nutrition and giving children the best start in life through healthy eating was my aim when I set up Organix, and that is what still drives the company today”.

Tumble Tots and Organix have produced a wonderful Eat Fit Keep Fit booklet which contains nutritious recipes from Lizzie Vann’s ‘Organic Baby and Toddler Cookbook’ plus a useful guide to portion sizes for the under fives.

“It’s great to be working with Organix supporting our campaign this year, we believe our booklet provides some useful recipes for parents and carers as well as a fabulous portion guide to help for our little ones get their ‘Five a Day’, “says, David Hunt, Sales & Marketing Director Tumble Tots (UK) Ltd.

Everyone is invited to send in their fruit or vegetables recipes. The 10 best recipes will win fantastic prizes from Organix and Tumble Tots plus a delightful fruit basket. Lizzie Vann founder of Organix will judge the competition.
